more local politics
local politicos are gearing up for the democratic primary in chatham county. politics are strange here: most everyone seems to run on the democratic ticket, so this primary (may 2) will really determine our next county commissioners (when "local" gets this small, parties don't seem to mean much anyway). chatham county is facing crazy growth, and the biggest issue in this election is how to manage it. as in many small towns, it'll be about whether we should welcome walmarts or local businesses; housing developments or family farms; parking lots or public rec areas.
of course, even when you know who you want to win, implementation is a little tricky: in our little pittsboro, turns out sewer is a major limiting factor for downtown development. ah, how technicalities can muss good intentions. we've been wondering about that faint yucky smell as we walk to the Y (eh?).
oh a happier note: hooray for spring! our farmers' market is open. yesterday tracy and i walked to the drugstore in the morning, did yard work all day, then walked to the grocery store for grilling-out supplies in the evening and - it was still light out at 6:00 - i thought, isn't this why we moved here? yay.
